Is besig wees ‘n dwelmmiddel?
Vir baie mense is besigwees ‘n dwelm en verdedigingsmeganisme. Hulle gebruik besigwees om hulle veilig te hou of gebruik dit as verskoning waarom hulle sekere dinge nie gedoen het of sleg gedoen het.

Hoe vra ek om verskoning?
Ons het onlangs gesien hoe bekende figure soos Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, David Petraeus … om verskoning vra. Natuurlik het ons baie agting vir mense wat hulle foute voor ander erken. Maar ons is ook sinies, want dikwels voel ons dat dit nie werklik ‘n verskoning was nie. Hierdie openbare mea culpa (skulderkentenis, boetedoening) klink goed, maar hulle het nie die komponente van ‘n opregte verskoning nie. Die kerk doen nie veel beter nie. Ons probeer ons verkeerde optrede regpraat in plaas daarvan dat ons dit erken en daarvoor verskoning vra – ‘n nie-verskoning verskoning.

Die enigste Verlosser is die Here Jesus Christus, die ewige Seun van God, in wie God mens geword het en dus self die straf vir die sonde gedra het. [Onderstreepte gedeelte is die antwoord vir kinders.]

Antwoord:
Ja, om aan sy geregtigheid te voldoen, het God self uit genade, ons met Homself versoen en ons van sonde en die straf vir die sonde verlos deur ‘n Verlosser.
