‘n Ateïs vra eendag vir ‘n Christen: “Hierdie God van jou, hoe is Hy? Is Hy groot of klein?”

Die antwoord: “My God is terselfdertyd beide groot en klein. Hy is so groot dat die hemele Hom nie kan hou nie. Tog is Hy so klein dat Hy kan woon in die hart van ‘n arme sondaar soos ek.”

‘n Ander storie:

‘n Jong seuntjie kom uit ‘n skool waar die Bybel onderrig word. ‘n Ongelowige vra vir hom: “Waar is jou God waarvan jy in daardie skool gelees het? Wys Hom vir my en ek sal vir jou ‘n lemoen gee.”

Die seuntjie antwoord: “Wys vir my waar Hy nie is nie en ek sal vir jou twee lemoene gee. My God is oral.”

Wat is jou storie?

Mense het vir die Oostenrykse filosoof, Ivan Illich, gevra hoe jy ‘n gemeenskap kan verander. Hy antwoord:

Neither revolution nor reformation can ultimately change a society, rather you must tell a new powerful tale, one so persuasive that it sweeps away the old myths and becomes the preferred story, one so inclusive that it gathers all the bits of our past and our present into a coherent whole, one that even shines some light into our future so that we can take the next step … If you want to change a society, then you have to tell an alternative story.

Eugene Peterson vertel van ‘n besoek aan ‘n klooster. Op pad na die eetsaal loop hulle verby die begraafplaas. Hy sien toe een oop graf en vra: “Watter lid van julle gemeenskap is onlangs oorlede?”
